The CSK retained players 2027 list is not official yet. The final retention and release lists are expected on 15 November 2026, ahead of the IPL 2027 auction. Until then, the names below are expectations based on form, roles and squad balance. The core is likely Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson, Shivam Dube, Noor Ahmad and Dewald Brevis.
Chennai Super Kings are one of the most followed teams in the IPL, so every retention rumour spreads fast. Trade news is also moving early this year, and Rishabh Pant was traded to Delhi Capitals well before the retention window. Here is what we know about CSK so far.
Has CSK Announced Its Retained Players List for IPL 2027?
No. As of 8 October 2026, CSK had not officially announced any IPL 2027 retained players. Every list you see online right now is a prediction. Please treat all names as expected, not confirmed, until the franchise releases its official list.
When Will the CSK Retention List 2027 Be Released?
The reported dates are:
- Retention deadline: 15 November 2026 (reported, not yet confirmed by the BCCI)
- IPL 2027 auction: a mini auction in Goa, reported for 16 December 2026
- Next mega auction: 2028
Because 2027 is a mini auction, franchises can keep as many players as they like. Only released players and new registrations go into the auction pool. So CSK are not forced to let good players go.
Which Players Are Expected to Be Retained by CSK in IPL 2027?
| Player | Role | Why CSK May Keep Him |
|---|---|---|
| Ruturaj Gaikwad | Top-order batter, captain | Leader and main batting anchor |
| Sanju Samson | Wicketkeeper-batter | Strong top-order option who can also keep wickets |
| Shivam Dube | All-rounder | Power-hitting in the middle overs |
| Noor Ahmad | Spinner | Wicket-taker in the middle overs |
| Dewald Brevis | Middle-order batter | Aggressive young batter for the future |
| Anshul Kamboj | Fast bowler | Indian pace depth |
| Khaleel Ahmed | Fast bowler | Experienced new-ball option |
| Ayush Mhatre | Batter | Young talent CSK are building around |
| MS Dhoni | Wicketkeeper-batter | Depends on his own decision |
Some reports also mention Urvil Patel, Mukesh Choudhary and Jamie Overton as possible retentions. This is not final.
Will Ruturaj Gaikwad Be Retained?
Almost certainly yes. He is the captain and the batting base of the team. One 2027 prediction says Gaikwad is still the main captaincy option, but Samson can be an experienced alternative. Even then, Gaikwad stays as a key batter.
Will Sanju Samson Stay at CSK?
Very likely. CSK got Samson from Rajasthan Royals in a trade before IPL 2026, sending Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran the other way. He opened the batting with Gaikwad and gives CSK a top-order batter who also keeps wickets. A player CSK paid this much for in a trade is rarely let go after one season.
Is Dewald Brevis in CSK’s Plans?
Yes. Brevis is young and hits big sixes. CSK have kept him in recent seasons, and most prediction lists show him in the long-term core. Fast scoring in the middle order is exactly what CSK need.
What About Shivam Dube and Noor Ahmad?
Both are seen as safe picks. Dube gives power-hitting and Noor Ahmad gives wickets in the middle overs, which every T20 team needs.
Will MS Dhoni Play IPL 2027?
This is up to Dhoni himself. One prediction says his status depends on his own decision, not on auction strategy. Under the current rules, CSK can keep him as an uncapped player at a low price. Nothing has been confirmed.
Which Players Could CSK Release or Trade?
CSK may look at players who played few matches or have similar roles. Predictions point to fringe seamers and duplicate overseas roles as the likely release group. Franchises also use the trade window to fix gaps before the auction, so a surprise move is always possible.

What Does CSK Need in the IPL 2027 Auction?
Based on the squad, CSK may focus on:
- Spin depth to support Noor Ahmad
- A young wicketkeeper-batter for the future
- Reliable Indian fast bowlers
- A strong overseas all-rounder
Reports say CSK finished 7th in IPL 2026 with six wins in 14 matches. There is also a big change off the field, as Stephen Fleming stepped down as head coach after 18 years. A new coach and a smart auction could shape the next phase of the team.
How Do IPL 2027 Retention Rules Work?
The big mega-auction rules were made for the 2025 to 2027 cycle, and 2027 is the last year of that cycle. Since this is a mini auction, teams can keep as many players as they want, as long as the money fits in their purse. Retained players’ salaries are cut from the purse, which decides how much CSK can spend in the auction. Salary matters a lot here, and you can see how big IPL pay really is in this IPL salary and net worth breakdown for a top star. Always check official IPL and BCCI announcements for the final rules.
